Maharashtra PG medical admissions: Confirm seats by April 29; no clarity on Round 2 yet

After the state common entrance test (CET) cell has re-released the first seat allotment list on Thursday evening, students have time until April 29, 5pm, to confirm admissions.

After the state common entrance test (CET) cell has re-released the first seat allotment list on Thursday evening, students have time until April 29, 5pm, to confirm admissions.

However, the uncertainty surrounding the second round of admissions continues as the Supreme Court, on Friday, extended its stay on their decision on the fate of seats under the All India Quota (AIQ). The next hearing has been slated for May 2.

“The second round of admissions can only take place once all vacant AIQ seats are surrendered to respective state governments. Since that process is not yet clear, we cannot conduct the second round,” said Dr Pravin Shingare, director, directorate of medical education and research (DMER).

The SC has stayed the process of admissions to AIQ seats following a petition filed by some students, demanding for an extra common admission process (CAP) round before vacant seats are surrendered.

The state CET cell on Friday once again released the first seat allotment list in order to facilitate options to students who had sought admissions in the management quota of private medical institutes.

“The process had to be redone in order to ensure that admissions go by merit only. No candidate should lose out on a seat they rightfully deserve due to last minute changes by the institute,” saod Shingare. He said that information on the second round of admissions to PG seats will be announced only after the SC brings clarity to the ongoing case on AIQ seats.
