If you have an interesting story about the city’s metro rail, it is time to give it a platform. Majhi Metro Festival 2016 will give the city’s budding artists an opportunity to participate in a three-week-long competition, called ‘My Metro, My Story’.

This year, the contest has three categories- photography, painting and poetry. Organisers said that at the end of the competition, a winning piece from each category will be displayed at the 12 metro stations between Versova and Ghatkopar.

“The winning piece will become a historic item of the city’s public art and will capture present-day Mumbai for years to come,” said another member from the organising team.

“We started the festival in 2013 as a painting competition to give citizens a sense of ownership over the metro space and to provide Mumbaikars with a canvas to exhibit their creativity in a public space,” said an official from the festival’s organising committee. Gayantika Sethi, 23, a Goregaon resident who won the competition in 2013, said, “The theme of my painting was ‘Metro for all’. It depicted dabbawalas, college students and working women, all in the same frame. After I won, I was asked to do a series of six paintings which were displayed at the Marol and Chakala stations.”
