MU didn’t consult us on retest, says GLC

In a letter to MU on Monday, GLC said the varsity should have either invited the college representatives or asked for their submission at the meeting conducted by the university’s Board of Studies (BoS) for law, last week, to discuss the issue.

Two days after the University of Mumbai (MU) directed the Government Law College (GLC) to conduct a re-examination for around 270 students who had failed the internal practical tests, the college on Monday said MU issued the directive without hearing them out. However, MU has maintained that it had asked the college to present its side, but the latter failed to do so.

In a letter to MU on Monday, GLC said the varsity should have either invited the college representatives or asked for their submission at the meeting conducted by the university’s Board of Studies (BoS) for law, last week, to discuss the issue. In its letter, GLC also said it has already conducted a re-test for the students who were absent for “genuine” reasons. “In your [MU’s] letter, there’s no specific mention about the category of students who are eligible for the re-examination,” read the letter, by GLC principal Suvarna Keole, seeking a clarification.

An MU official said they have received the letter and will decide on the course of action. “After the issue was reported in the media, MU sent an email to the college, requesting them to present the facts. So far, the college hasn’t done that,” he said.
