The Congress has condemned the various charges levied by the banks, including withdrawal of the cash from ATMs beyond specified number of attempts, charges on cheque withdrawal, penalty for not maintaining a minimum balance, and unwarranted promotion of online payments. To oppose the move by the Central government, the party has announced a ‘Tweet Morcha’ and has appealed to people to participate by tweeting about their bank woes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi using the hashtags #TweetMorcha #BankSeBachao.

“This is a unique way to protest to attract the attention of the government, which has not paid heed to our numerous petitions in the past. We will gather at Ravindra Natya Mandir at 3pm on July 4 and appeal to the people to raise their voice against these arbitrary charges being levied after demonitisation. Since Narendra Modiji is very active on Twitter, we thought our attempt to protest through social media will pay off. The common man is badly hit because of these charges,” said Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam.
