Mumbai driver sends obscene messages, videos to woman, arrested

The accused, who had been hired by the woman, had been dropping her home for the past several months

The Sakinaka police’s cyber cell on Thursday arrested a 30-year-old driver for sending porn videos and obscene messages to a 27-year-old woman.

The woman works as an engineer in a private firm, which had hired the driver to drop their employees.

According to the Sakinaka police, the driver, identified as Devidas Sonmale, got acquainted with the complainant as he had been dropping her home for the past several months. When he learnt that the complainant is separated from her husband, he sent her obscene messages and videos. This happened two to three times, after which the woman approached the Sakinaka police and registered an FIR .

The FIR was registered under sections 354 A (sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code, and under section 67 A (punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act, etc., in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act.

The accused was traced and arrested by sub inspector Laxman Devre. Police inspector Sunil Mane said the accused does not have a criminal record.
