The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has arranged a design competition for the elevated metro stations of line 7 (Dahisar to Andheri).
The Metro-7 line is expected to cost Rs6,208 crore and will have 14 stations.
In an advertisement issued on October 13, the planning authority has called in for designs from architecture firms, colleges, architects and consultants. The designs are mainly for Magathane, Aarey, Pushpa Park stations and a special terminal at Andheri.
A senior official from MMRDA said besides the prize-winning entry for each station being implemented, the winner would get Rs5 lakh.
The official, who did not wish to be named, said, “We are looking at designs that will be iconic and represent the area through their work. For instance, the Aarey station should speak of the area’s characteristics through design-aesthetics.”
The last date for submission is November 13. Interested participants can log onto MMRDA’s e-rendering portal for more information.
The Metro-7 line is a 16.475km long elevated corridor that will provide connectivity along the existing Western Express Highway and Western Railway. Apart from this, it will also be connected with the current Metro line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the upcoming Metro line 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar) and proposed Metro line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).
