A 62-year-old from Charkop allegedly lost Rs 3.15 lakh to a credit card fraud within two hours.

Utpal Ghosh told the Charkop police that he got messages between 11.45 pm on October 15 and 2.04 am on October 16, said an officer.
“Ghosh fell victim to a card cloning fraud. The accused used Ghosh’s data to make transactions to the sum of Rs 3.15 lakh,” said the officer.
He first informed his bank about the fraud and went to the police station to file a complaint on Tuesday.
The police have written to the cybercrime cell for assistance and are seeking details from the bank. Officials said prima facie Ghosh’s credit card data was used for online transactions. They will also investigate where Ghosh’s last used his credit card.
“We have registered a case of cheating under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act,” said P Yele, inspector at Charkop police station.
