The University of Mumbai (MU) has once again requested colleges to extend the admission deadline for master’s courses. But the date for exams of MA in Entertainment, Media & Advertising, which are supposed to commence in the next three weeks, have created a dilemma for colleges.

“While the exams for most MCom and MA courses will be held in December or January, exams for this particular course has been scheduled for November 1,” said Anju Kapoor, principal, of UPG College, Vile Parle.

Besides requesting colleges extend admission deadline for master’s courses, the varsity is also deferring exams for the current batch. “It is clear that there is little communication between various departments of the university,” she added.

While the original deadline for postgraduate admissions was August 21, the same has been deferred thrice. The last deadline for admissions, as specified in a circular by the university was September 25.

“After September 25, the university hasn’t released any circular to inform us about deadline extension. We came to know about the fourth extension after we called to university,” said the principal of a suburban college.

“We are working on a formula to decide the average marks and in order to come up with an appropriate solution, we will need another couple of days,” said Arjun Ghatule, director, Board of Examination and Evaluation, MU.

While admissions to all master’s courses is still open, many colleges have started conducting lectures for those students who have already sought admissions. “We can’t postpone the academic session anymore, especially since almost 60-70% of our batches are already full. Those students who confirm admissions henceforth will be put through extra lectures later,” added Kapoor.
