Nariman Point residents object to use of loudspeakers during Mumbai Marathon

In a letter, the Nariman Point Resident Association stated loud music starts blaring from 5am on the Marathon day.

Ahead of the 15th edition of Mumbai Marathon today, the Nariman Point Resident Association (NPRA) has asked the deputy commissioner of police to not allow loudspeakers and other sound equipment on Marine Drive.

Just a week before the marathon and in a relief to the organisers, the Bombay high court had reduced the amount demanded by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) from the Mumbai Marathon organisers from Rs3.66 crore to Rs1.05 crore.

The court also directed the BMC to grant permissions to put up temporary structures that are incidental to the main purpose of conducting marathon, such as structures required for providing medical and other assistance to participants, refreshment stalls and mobile toilets, among others.

However, NPRA in its letter highlighted that the number of stalls using amplified sound are increasing every year along Marine Drive during the event from 5 am to noon.
