According to a source, the red sports car was seized near a hotel on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway after its driver failed to produce any documents, including the vehicle’s registration certificate and insurance papers, before officials. The car, which did not display a number plate had clocked 16,619 kilometres.

Shyam Lohi, deputy regional transport officer of the RTO at Thane confirmed the development.

A source said that the car was in possession of a woman from Mira Road, who claimed she had borrowed it from its owner who resides at Bhosari in Pune.

The car’s driver and owner have been to produce all the necessary documents of the car along with its tax payment receipt. They have been also asked to produce the type approval certificate, which endorses a vehicle that complies with all the regulations and safety norms and is suitable for plying on Indian roads.

The DC Avanti website says that the car was first showcased in the Delhi auto expo in 2008. It, however, hit the Indian roads in 2015, after clearing all safety tests prescribed by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). The DC Avanti sports car has been designed and manufactured by automobile designer Dilip Chabria’s company. The price of the new DC Avanti models range from Rs37 lakh to Rs44 lakh.
