Speeding truck hits Mumbai biker in Sakinaka, killing him

The Mumbai truck driver stopped the truck a few meters away from the accident spot, alighted and then fled

A 28-year-old biker was killed after a speeding truck hit him at Sakinaka on Friday. Yogesh Gaikwad, an employee at a private firm, lived at Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar in Ghatkopar (West), said police.

He was returning from work around 8.30 pm when he tried to overtake a vehicle on the Andheri-Ghatkopar road.

The truck hit him from the right side, owing to which he lost his balance and fell off the bike. He sustained severe injuries on his head and other parts of the body. The truck driver stopped the truck a few meters away. He alighted and then fled, said a police officer.

Passersby took Gaikwad to Rajawadi Hospital, where he died during treatment.

The Sakinaka police registered a case against truck driver under section 304A of the Indian Penal Code (causing death due to rash and negligent driving). They also seized his vehicle, said senior inspector Avinash Dharmadhikari.

Police said Gaikwad is survived by his wife, three daughters, son, parents and younger brother Vishal, 25.
