A 19-year-old man died after he hit the brakes of his two-wheeler abruptly, causing it to skid in Thane on Tuesday night.

The Chithalsar police said Mahesh Ashok Ahir was a resident of Wagle Estate. He worked at a private firm.
Ahir was riding his bike alone towards Ghodbunder Road, when a biker ahead of him hit the brakes abruptly near Cine Wonder Mall. To avoid a collision, Ahir hit his brakes too. However, his bike skid.
“Both Ahir’s legs were trapped under the wheels. He suffered deep cuts on his legs and other parts of his body. An eyewitness alerted the police. Ahir was taken to Titan Hospital, where he was declared dead,” said an official from the Chithalsar police station.
Ahir’s family was alerted. The body was sent to Thane Civil Hospital, after which it was handed over to his family.
“We recorded the statement of another biker who was present at the spot when the accident occurred. We registered a case of rash and negligent driving under sections of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections of the Motor Vehicle Act against Ahir,” said the officer.
