Mumbai: Three semi-fast trains to halt at Jogeshwari after passengers protest

On Tuesday, a crowd of more than 100 passengers barged into station master’s cabin at Jogeshwari around 9.40am, demanding halting the trains.

After commuters voiced their protest over the railways’ decision not to halt six semi-fast trains at Jogeshwari, the railway administration agreed to their demands, with a condition.

Commuters were upset after the Western Railway discontinued halting of six Chuchgate-bound semi-fast trains at Jogeshwari from October 1. Of the six, five trains depart from Goregaon and one from Malad.

On Tuesday, a crowd of more than 100 passengers barged into station master’s cabin at Jogeshwari around 9.40am, demanding halting the trains.

The passengers opposed the railway administration’s decision of discontinuing the halt of the peak-hour locals, which used to be less crowded and convenient for them. The RPF and GPR officials pacified the angry passengers.

Source said that the passengers had been registering their protest for the past three days, but on Tuesday morning they were angry when none of their regular trains stopped at Jogeshwari station and the other trains came packed.

WR has revised suburban timetable from October 1 after introducing 32 new suburban services, including 15-coach trains. It has made this change to increase speed of some trains.

The three trains which will halt at Jogeshwari will, however, not stop at Andheri station,” said a source, requesting anonymity.
