At least 760 trains – long-distance and local – cross the Kalyan junction daily. The remodeling, which includes improving the infrastructure and upgrade of systems, will help segregate the tracks for long-distance and local trains, improving the punctuality of trains.

During a marathon meeting with railway minister Piyush Goyal, CR officials said redesigning the yard could facilitate smoother train movement on the crowded route, as local trains won’t have to wait for long-distance ones to clear the tracks. Goyal agreed to sanction the project and asked the officials to submit a report on it within a month.

“Currently, the overlapping of trains leads to a mess on the CR. The new yard will help manage this better, reducing the chances of delay,” a senior CR officer said.
