According to the complainant, identified as Ajay Bose, he saw the two GRP constables trying to extort money from a commuter when he was travelling by train and got off at Wadala.

Bose began to record a video of the incident for proof. When the constables noticed him recording, they approached him and demanded that he delete the footage.

On refusing, the constables threatened him and snatched his phone away. The constables then threw the phone down and broke it, after which Bose approached the senior Wadala GRP officials. The police have booked the constables, but are verifying the incident and confirming the role of the constables.

“Although we have booked the constables under sections 384 (extortion), 201, (destroyed evidence), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, we are still verifying the incident,” said Machindra Chavan, assistant commissioner of police (CR GRP).
