Mumbai As Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is set to be re-elected as the party president at Sena’s national executive meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday, a reshuffle in the party structure is on the cards.
Thackeray’s elder son and Yuva Sena (party’s youth wing) chief Aaditya, who has been trying to reinvent the Sena into a modern political party, with a slew of initiatives for Mumbai and the rest of the state, is likely to be given a role in the party.
The meeting will be held at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Indoor Stadium in Worli on Tuesday, which is the birth anniversary of Sena founder the late Bal Thackeray. The election to the post of party chief will be done as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India for internal elections. As there are no other nominations, Thackeray’s re-election is a mere formality.
The organizational structure of the party which includes party chief, leaders and deputy leaders is likely to remain the same.
Some faces will be changed, said party functionaries familiar with the development. A senior Sena functionary said Aaditya is likely to be given the responsibility of either a deputy leader or a leader. He would, however, continue to lead the Yuva Sena. “Aaditya has been galvanising the youth. He has taken on the Opposition and even the BJP on several issues, and has spearheaded or suggested some key initiatives for Mumbai. He could be elevated to the post of a leader within the party,” a senior Sena leader said.

{{/usCountry}}Thackeray is likely to relieve a couple of leaders and induct or promote new ones. Public works minister Eknath Shinde might be inducted as leader of the party.
Sena functionaries said the changes would reflect the party’s preparation for the two crucial elections in 2019. A senior leader said Thackeray is slated to handpick new members as party office-bearers. He is likely to accommodate legislators, who have not been ministers in the current government.
Thackeray is also likely to give a roadmap for the 2019 polls. “It is likely that deputy leaders and others will be given responsibilities to go down to various districts to make people aware of Sena’s contribution,” said a senior leader.
