UP man held for stabbing woman repeatedly after she refused his marriage proposal in Mumbai

The accused has been booked for attempt to murder

The Andheri police recently arrested a 24-year-old man from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh who allegedly stabbed a woman repeatedly in an Andheri lodge after she refused his marriage proposal.

After stabbing the victim, Heena Khatun, 23, the accused managed to flee before staff members could nab him. Khatun is now out of danger and recuperating in Sion hospital.

The accused, identified as Saeed Mohammad Pathan, came to Mumbai last month to seek employment. He works as a supervisor and used to live on construction site in Andheri.

Pathan and Khatun both hailed from the same village in Lucknow and were in constant touch with each other from long time. Khatun’s father and brother live in Mumbra, Thane, and she lived with her aunt in Lucknow.

Two months ago, she came to Mumbai without informing her family and stayed in Vasai as a paying guest. She worked in a private firm. After coming to Mumbai, Pathan contacted her and they met on several occasions.

Pathan wanted to marry her and discussed the matter with her parents, who agreed. However, Khatun refused his proposal, said a police officer.

“This infuriated Pathan, and in a fit of rage, he stabbed her repeatedly in the neck, chest and abdomen,” said police inspector Rajesh Padvi of Andheri police station.

“When the hotel staff heard Khatun scream, they rushed her to Seven Hill Hospital. She was later sifted to Sion hospital,” he added.

Police recorded the victim’s statement, and a case of attempt to murder was registered against Pathan. A police team was then formed to look for Pathan, who first went to Gujarat and later to Jhansi, Madhya Pradesh. “We tracked him down after Pathan made two calls from a stranger’s mobile phone, one to his friend and another to his girlfriend in Lucknow,” said the official.

The police tracked his location to Lucknow. “We got his girlfriend’s number and contacted her. After taking her into confidence, she gave us his location in Lucknow, after which our team nabbed him. He was brought to Mumbai on October 19 and produced in court. He is now in police custody,” said Padvi.
