The only centre that sold pulses, including tur dal, at cheaper rates, started by the rationing department in the city shut down recently.

With prices of pulses rising, the rationing department inaugurated centres at several places to sell pulses at cheaper rates. For residents of Navi Mumbai, one such centre was started at the APMC’s masala market with the help of GROMA, where tur dal was sold for Rs80 per kg.
However, the shop has downed its shutter after remaining operational for just one month. This has once again forced locals to purchase pulses from the open market ranging anywhere between Rs95 per kg and Rs110 per kg.The shops were started by the government to provide relief to the people after tur dal prices skyrocketed to Rs200 per kg and above.
An official from GROMA said, “Tur dal stocked at the centre was imported by the government. Moreover, the quality of the pulses wasn’t up to the mark. Hence, there were not many buyers. This eventually resulted in shutting of the centre.”
