Woman falls off train in Mumbai: Accomplice of bamboo-wielding teen attacker arrested

The arrested man allegedly accompanied the minor accused.

The government railway police (GRP) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) have arrested an accomplice of the 17-year-old teenager, who grievously injured 23-year-old Dravita Singh and robbed her of her phone while she was standing on the footboard of a local train on Wednesday morning.

The woman lost part of her leg and three fingers of her hand in the incident. (HT)

The arrested man was identified as Raja Pal alias Ajay, 26, resident of a slum in Sandhurst Road. He allegedly accompanied the minor accused.

The incident took place when Singh was talking on the phone while standing near the footboard between Sandhurst Road and Masjid railway stations. The 17-year-old, who was perched atop a railway pole, hit the woman on her hand with a bamboo stick. As Singh fell, the teenager picked up her mobile phone worth Rs18,000, and fled. A part of her foot and three fingers were crushed under a Kurla-bound train approaching from the opposite direction.

GRP officials on Thursday caught the 17-year-old, which led them to Ruksana, 25, who allegedly bought Singh’s stolen phone from him. The teenager was sent to the Dongri children correction home and the woman to judicial custody.
