NIA court reserves order on plea filed by Majeed’s dad

MUMBAI: The special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Thursday reserved the order on the plea filed by the father of the alleged ISIS recruit Areeb Majeed seeking CCTV footage of the airport from where his son was picked up and also his call records. Majeed’s father, Ejaz, has sought for these records to prove his son’s innocence.

Ejaz had alleged that Majeed’s return to India was a well-coordinated task executed with the help of top NIA officers. He had last year moved a plea demanding the CCTV footage of the airport from where Majeed was picked up and alleged that he and his son were lured by the agency and later Majeed was illegally detained.

Further Ejaz has also sought for his call data record between November 20, 2014 to November 30, 2014, as he alleged that the senior NIA officials and also officials of embassy were in touch with him to coordinate Majeed’s return.

The court on Thursday heard the arguments from both the sides. The special public prosecutor N R Rathod, denied Ejaz’s allegation and contended that Majeed was first arrested by Anti-Terrorism Squad of Mumbai police and it was later on November 29, 2014, that NIA took his custody.

The court has reserved the order on Ejaz’s plea for September 8. Meanwhile, the prosecution sought time to file reply on the Majeed’s bail plea filed on Saturday.
