MUMBAI: After being on the run for nearly a year, the Powai police traced and arrested a site supervisor from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh (UP) for allegedly running away with Rs1.6 lakh, the money he was supposed to pay his labourers.

The police said the accused, Om Pratap Pandey, 50, worked as a supervisor in an international firm. The office manager of the firm had lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against Pandey with the Powai police last year, under section 408 of the Indian Penal code (IPC) for criminal breach of trust.
Pandey was supposed to pay the labourers for working on a one month fabrication contract at Wada in Palghar district. He took the money from the manager, but instead of paying them, he disappeared with it.
The Powai police said he went to Goa and then back to UP. Acting on a tip-off, the police were sent to Jaunpur and Pandey was brought back to the city on Saturday. He is currently being questioned.
