MUMBAI: Minority schools will have to display declarations certifying that they belong to a linguistic or a religious minority.

On Monday, schools received declaration for ms from the state minorities development department asking them to fill in their details including the certificate numbers.
The minority certificates are issued by the state government and needed to claim benefits.
The department is insisting on this as several schools are claiming to hold the minority tag even though they don’t have certificates.
Schools are doing this to enjoy t he benefits granted to such institutions such as exemption from admitting socially and economically weaker students under the Right to Education Act, which is binding on unaided, non-minority schools.
