Villagers of a town in coastal Ratnagiri were baffled to find a 10-year-old girl, who has said she is from Byculla, loitering on a village road on Friday. The police have launched a hunt to trace her family.
According to the Guhagar police, the villagers brought the girl to the police station after finding her roaming the streets. “The girl said she was brought to the village by an unidentified man. She has given her address as a mosque in Byculla and said her name is Muskan Sultan Khan,” said V Chaudhary, inspector from Guhagar police station.
The girl speaks Hindi but is unable to give further details to the police. “She says that she reached Guhagar by train and was brought by a man. We are investigating further,” said Chaudhary.
The girl has been taken to an ashram for women in the town. “We have also contacted our counterparts at Agripada and Cuffe Parade police stations in Mumbai. They too are investigating,” said Chaudhary.
A team from the Guhagar police station has left for Mumbai to trace the address of the girl. “If the address is not traced, we are contemplating taking the girl to Mumbai along with women police constables. The girl could show us her address when we are in the city. We will seek necessary permissions from the court,” said Chaudhary. The police have, meanwhile, bought clothes for the girl and have arranged for food.
