After 1-year delay, crime branch to decide on action against leader accused in Arms Act case

A year after excess ammunition was found at Congress leader Kripashankar Singh's residence, the crime branch is likely to decide the course of action against the leader with the forensic state laboratory (FSL), at Kalina, likely to send the ballistic report within a week's time.

A senior official of the crime branch said the matter has been under investigations with the Crime Intelligence unit (CIU) and they were tallying the bullets with those issued from the licensed shops. Along with the tallying, the ballistic report would prove if there was any excess ammunition, the official said.

The FSL had, last year, sent a report to the Mumbai branch, however crime branch officials were not satisfied with it and many queries were raised about the report. "We had called for a new report and are still awaiting it from FSL," officials said adding that they had called a complete analysis of the weapons and the ammunition as the last report did not have all the details.

Earlier the Economic offences wing which is investigating the disproportionate assets case against Singh and his family had come across the excess ammunition. Subsequently, a First Information report (FIR) was filed against Singh on April 14, with the Nirmal Nagar police station under the Arms act. FSL director Dr MK Malve told HT that they have received the exhibits back from the crime branch for a more detailed report on the ammunition.
