Andheri RTO seizes 14 illegal autos, 3 asked to stay off roads

Following repeated complaints by commuters, the Andheri Regional Transport Office (RTO) has decided to act against illegal autorickshaws plying in the western suburbs.

On the first day of its drive, the RTO seized 14 autorickshaws, of which three will not be allowed to ply anymore.

“Among the autos we seized, some did not have proper registration papers and some did not have the fare meter. We have impounded these autorickshaws and kept them at Jogeshwari police station,” said a senior official from Andheri RTO.

According to RTO sources, three autorickshaws were plying even after their registration had been cancelled.

This is the first time the RTO has initiated such a drive in which six RTO officials and 10 policemen participated. Officials said the drive will continue.
