Board to award cash prizes to HSC subject toppers

When the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results were announced on May 25, Paritosh Gupta was thrilled to know he had scored a perfect hundred in the maths paper.

On Saturday, the student of Pace Junior Science College in Nerul, was on a vacation in Matheran when the Mumbai division board announced him as the maths topper. “Mathematics is my favourite subject so I didn’t have to break my head over it. I practiced regularly,” said Gupta.

The board also awards a cash prize to subject toppers. “I regularly attended college lectures and planned my studies well. I am happy that all the hard work paid off,” said Krunal Gedia from Swami Vivekananda Junior College, Chembur, who secured 200 out of 200 in electronics with an overall percentage of 95.83%.

Isha Madhukar, a science student from Ruia College, who topped English with 92%, said: “I have given my CET exam. If I do not get a good college through CET, I would take admission in my college itself.”

At RD National College in Bandra, the overall pass percentage of students in science, commerce and arts is 97%, 95% and 91% respectively, as against 95%, 93% and 85% respectively last year. “This year, students have done exceedingly well in arts,” said Dinesh Panjwani, principal RD National College.
