At several schools in the city, report cards are no longer just about academic performance. Students are being gauged by their body parameters; all in the pursuit of better fitness.

Technology has made inroads here too, in the form of extensive databases of students’ progress, updates via text messages and sophisticated equipment to test fitness levels.

At the start of the year, schools put students through various tests to assess fitness and other performance indicators, helping students track their improvement in the course of a year. “It’s a report card on the child’s body,” said Shrikant Hazare, chief marketing officer, Kids Out of Home (KOOH) Private Limited, which has so far worked with two city schools.

At Sanjivani International School, Navi Mumbai and Little Angels School, Sion, the company EduSports runs a yearlong sports development programme to assess students on various parameters.

NES International School plans to do the same from this year, by investing in a machine to understand every student’s body composition and help tackle obesity.

The company also keeps track of various lesson plans implemented at schools as part of the programme and sends out progress reports via text messages to school heads to keep them up to date on how the lessons are progressing.
