Congress, NCP slam Raj for trying to slink out of case

Congress and Nationalist Congress party (NCP) termed the decision as typical of both Shiv Sena and MNS, which instigated youngsters for political ends and then deceived them.

Thackeray, in his application on Wednesday, had pleaded that he was not present at the time of the violence and had no role to play in the incident.

In 2008, he had been booked in connection with the attack on students appearing for the Railway Recruitment Board examination when the MNS, led by Thackeray, had campaigned against recruiting outsiders for railway jobs.

State Congress president Manickrao Thakre told the media that the issue of ‘Marathi’ was a political ploy for both the Senas and that many young local youngsters had spent years in courts or had lost employment opportunities because of the violence instigated by these parties.

“Charges were filed against 20 local youth in this case. Thackeray, who instigated them with his provocative speeches is now trying to slink out of the case,” said Thakre.

“It is so typical of the Thackerays to spoil the life of youth for their own agendas,” Malik alleged.
