Humidity levels rise as Mumbai's air quality shows improvement

Mumbai residents experienced respite from sun's wrath as the city was seen under a cloud cover on Wednesday. However, humidity levels continued to remain high at 80% and 71% recorded in south Mumbai and the suburbs respectively on Wednesday evening.

"The cloud cover over the city is because the winds over Mumbai are currently westerly and are carrying a lot of moisture. Levels of humidity are also high due to the same reason," said VK Rajeev, director, western region, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to the IMD, night temperatures increased both in the south Mumbai and the suburbs on Wednesday. As compared to Tuesday's temperature of 27.9 degree Celsius, south Mumbai - Colaba recorded 28.8 degree Celsius, 3.4 degree Celsius above normal on Wednesday. While the suburbs - Santacruz observatory - recorded at 26.2 degree Celsius, 1.6 degree Celsius above normal as compared to Tuesday's 25.7 degree Celsius.

Colaba and Santacruz recorded maximum temperatures of 34.5 degrees Celsius and 34.0 degrees Celsius - 1.9 degrees and a degree Celsius above the normal mark.

Thursday's forecast
Weathermen have predicted partly cloudy skies with maximum and minimum temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius for Thursday.
