Taking serious note of misconduct by some personnel tarnishing the Mumbai police’s reputation, commissioner Rakesh Maria has ordered senior officers to prepare a list of policemen with a history of womanising, alcohol and narcotics.

Taking serious note of misconduct by some personnel tarnishing the Mumbai police’s reputation, commissioner Rakesh Maria has ordered senior officers to prepare a list of policemen with a history of womanising, alcohol and narcotics.

This is for the first time an audit focusing on such activities will be carried out.

Earlier, audits of the force covered aspects such as doubtful integrity, taking bribes, among others.

“A list of all the policemen who indulge in unruly activities will be prepared. These cops will be transferred to postings that keep them away from any contact with citizens,” said Maria.

The order was issued in a meeting attended by all regional additional commissioners and zonal deputy commissioners on Monday.

While the whole exercise will start from the police station level, the top cop said all the senior officers, including those from the crime branch, special branch and others cells of the police, will be part of the audit.

All the IPS officers have been asked to keep a close watch on the daily activities and operations of the policemen, especially those posted in the detection units in the police stations.

Before the Saki Naka police came under fire for the alleged rape of a model, constable Dharmaraj Kalokhe of with the Marine Drive police station was booked in a narcotics case, and 122 kg of Mephedrone seized from him.

Some of the drug was stored in his locker at the police station.
