Nearly 250 buildings in Khar have been surveyed for the installation of close circuit television (CCTV) cameras. The association plans to install CCTVs on Ramkrishna Mission Marg, 13th-18th road, SV Road and Hinduja Marg (telephone exchange).

“Installation of CCTV cameras would help beef up security. The private vigilance security agency will charge an installation fee and a nominal sum for monthly monitoring,” said Anandini Thakoor, managing trustee, KRA.

“The estimates have been e-mailed to all the housing societies, banks, hotels and other institutions. Their replies are awaited. Though no confirmation has been received, we expect a good response,” she added.

The idea of CCTV installation has impressed some housing societies. “Security is a major concern in the area. The CCTVs at the entrance and exit points will be of great help,” said Nanji Shah, secretary of Khar Ekta society.

The Hawks Vigilance and Security will be responsible for installation of 50 high-speed dome rotating and zooming cameras on roads and two fixed CCTVs in each building.

Mangesh Pote, senior police inspector, Khar police station, said, “It is a good initiative taken up by the residents. We welcome the idea. It will definitely help us monitor the security and prevent the occurrence of crimes.”
