The Dindoshi police on Monday arrested Nidhi Gupta’s sister-in-law Sunita Gupta from her relative’s residence in Goregaon (West) on charges of abetment of suicide and dowry harassment. Four other persons, including Nidhi’s husband Pawan, are wanted in the case.

Nidhi had committed suicide on March 8 by jumping from the 19th floor of the 21-storey building in Sahyadri Housing Complex in Upper Govind Nagar in Malad (East), where she was living with her husband and in-laws. Nidhi first flung her two children — Gaurav, 6, and Mihika, 3 off the gallery.
The Dindoshi police had registered a case of abetment of suicide and dowry harassment against Nidhi’s husband and in-laws after her father Bimal Jalan alleged she was being mentally tortured and harassed by them for several years.
“The Guptas were not traceable after they learnt that a case has been registered against them. We received a tip-off on Sunita’s whereabouts. We are now hunting for Pawan, Sunita’s husband Rakesh, and their parents,” said Vinayak Kakade, senior police inspector.
Sunita will be produced in the court on Tuesday, police said. The remaining family members are likely to move the sessions court for anticipatory bail.
