Mumbai: Within 24 hours, another boy hit by school bus in Oshiwara

While the boy suffered a fracture on his leg, the Oshiwara police arrested the driver. None of the students on the bus were hurt.

According to the police, the accident took place around 12.30pm near Mega Mall, when the boy, Harsh Jaypal Durga, was trying to cross the road. The driver, identified as Mohammed Rafiq Abdul Gani, 30, was steering the school bus of Andheri-based St Mary’s School.

“Gani is believed to have been speeding, when he knocked down the boy. He has suffered a fracture on his right leg. We rushed him to Shri Sai Hospital in Goregaon (West) and arrested the driver,” said Subhash Vele, senior inspector at Oshiwara police station. Durga, a resident of Anand Nagar in Jogeshwari (West), is a Class three student at Sunflower School in Behram Baug.

The school authorities said that the accident was not caused by the driver’s negligence. “It was not Gani’s mistake. The mishap occurred as other motorists tried to overtake the bus,” said a spokesperson of St Mary’s School.

On Wednesday evening, a 9-year-old boy, Farhan Khan, was run over by a speeding bus owned by G M School, Goregaon (West) while he was crossing the road near Ashiyana Tower at Relief Road in Oshiwara. The driver was arrested for causing death due to negligence.?
