MUMBAI: There are no leads on the reasons behind the sudden death of the 28-year-old wife of a lance naik in the retiring room at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) in the intervening night of April 22 and 23, with the forensic analysis report ruling out poisoning as the cause of her death.

A team of forensic sciences laboratory (FSL) had collected samples from the retiring room after it came to the fore that the room had been disinfected with pesticides only days before the couple stayed there.

Nazia Khatun and Zia-ur-Rehman, 32, arrived at CST by Madgaon Express in the night of April 22 and were to leave for Pune the following day. They had bought two packs of biryani from the train’s pantry, which they had for dinner with some wine. Following the incident, the FSL had collected samples including wall scrapings, remains from what the woman had thrown up.

“They submitted the report after testing the samples stating that they did not contain any poisonous substance. The cause of death is still unclear and so we will refer it to doctors to ascertain the same,” said Madhukar Pandey, GRP commissioner.

A joint team of doctors from the St Georges’ and the JJ Hospitals will now look into the same and forward the final report revealing the cause of her death to the GRP.
