Friends of the victims of the German Bakery blast in Pune are organising student peace marches in five cities across India, including Mumbai, reports Sayli Mankikar.

Between 2 pm and 2.30 pm on Sunday, hundreds of youth aged 18 to 25 will participate in the marches, organised by Youth For Peace. The group was formed by friends of Anindyee Dhar (19), Ankik Dhar (24) and Shilpa Goenka (23) — all three died in the blast on February 13.

The students will also distribute pamphlets containing a national agenda in two parts — one addressed to the public, the other for politicians. A signature campaign and national debate on safety and awareness have also been planned.

The organisers said the point they want to make is that citizens need to be more aware of their surroundings, wary of unknown or abandoned bags, and report suspicious people.
