Police hope to trace main accused via phone records

The Kurar police have said Uday Pathak, the main accused in the quadruple murders in Malad, has so far managed to escape their clutches and they are hoping his mobile phone records will give some indication of his location.

Police said they traced Pathak to three locations in and outside the city with the help of a phone tracker, but by the time they reached the spot, Pathak had escaped. “His phone records can also help us ascertain whether the woman who lodged a complaint against him on Saturday, the day the four men went missing, was providing him with an alibi,” said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity.

Pathak and his men had kidnapped Chetan Dhule, 24, Dinesh Ihire 26, Ganesh Karanje, 24, and Bharat Kudle, 27, taken them to a hillock in Kurar village and murdered them.

The police have detained around 15 men from Kurar village who were acquainted with Pathak. “These men were close to Pathak and may know where he is,” the police officer said. The police have so far arrested five persons for their involvement in the gruesome murders.

The police are also trying to track down the other men involved in the murders. The five arrested men have been sent to police custody till June 15.
