Register online to bag seat under institutional quota

To curb malpractices in the admission process, the state’s Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has asked all aspirants to professional courses to register online on the state’s admission website. The directive also applies to students who are seeking admission to seats under the institutional and management quotas.

The state will then prepare a merit list based on the aspirants’ scores in the common entrance test (CET). The colleges have been directed to admit students applying under the institutional quota as per this merit list.

“Some private colleges manipulated the admission przocess for their benefit. The new rules have made the admission process very rigorous and it will help prevent malpractices to a large extent,” said Gopakumaran T Thampi, principal, Thadomal Shahani Engineering College, Bandra.

Earlier, only aspirants seeking admission to engineering, management, architecture and hotel management institutes under the common admission process (CAP), had to apply online, while those seeking admission to seats under the institutional quota could directly send in their applications to colleges.

However, some private institutes are not in favour of the directive. “There was no need for the DTE to change the rules,” said Kalim Khan, director, Rizvi Institute of Management Studies and Research.
