The new 15-car rake, likely to be introduced on Central Railway (CR) between CST and Kalyan stations from October 15, will have two additional ladies’ compartments and a general compartment.

“The extra coaches will be attached to a 12-car train on the CST end,” said a senior official.
Subodh Jain, general manager of CR, has announced the introduction of 15-car services from October 15. It is considered a boon for the over 37 lakh daily suburban CR commuters, especially those who travel on the main line. The CR authorities said they are trying to introduce a few services of the new 15-car rake during peak hours.
CR authorities said they decided to reserve two coaches for women including a complete first-class coach considering the rising number of women passengers.
“Only 6% of the train space is reserved for first class women passengers in 12-car rakes. It will go up to 11% in 15-car rakes,” said the official.
Although of the three extra coaches, only half a coach is reserved as general first class compartment, CR sources said the space for general first class compartments will rise by 1.6%.
