Two years on, state yet to allot land for new RTO at Borivli

Taking the pressure on the Andheri RTO, which covers the area from Bandra to Dahisar and gets more than 3,000 visitors daily, into account, the state had decided to set up a new transport office at Borivli and two more in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on August 17, 2010.

"While the other two RTO offices became fully functional within a year, the work on the RTO at Borivli is yet to take off," said a senior official, on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

The Borivli office would benefit citizens from western suburbs such as Goregaon, Malad, Kandivli, Dahisar, Charkop, Gorai and Malwani.

According to a senior official, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, too, has asked for the Malwani plot for its Metro-II project, leading to a delay on the decision.

"While the Borivli land proposal has been rejected, decision on the Dahisar plot is awaited," said the official.

VN More, transport commissioner, said, "We want to set up the Borivli RTO as soon as possible. We are perusing the proposals pending for decision with the state government and the civic body."
