Nanki Lal Mohammad Siddi-qui, 65, was found in a pool of blo-od on the floor of the ladies compartment of the Kamyani Expr-ess, which runs between Varanasi and Mumbai, police said.

According to the Kurla police, who have registered a case of murder and robbery against an unidentified accused, the assailant had slit Siddiqui's throat with a sharp object.

Siddiqui was supposed to stay at her elder son’s Nallasopara residence, where two of her grandsons were to get married on Sunday, Dillip Gore, senior inspector, Kurla railway police told HT. Siddiqui boarded the train at Allahabad on Friday evening with another grandson, Mohammad Siddiqui, who claimed that Rs2,500, which she was carrying, was missing.

Mohammad told the police that when the train halted at Thane on Saturday at 10.45pm, a middle-aged man, who claimed to be a ticket collector, boarded the bogie and asked him to shift to the general compartment or pay Rs500 as fine. Mohammad claims he moved to the general compartment, said Gore.
