Woman in suitcase may be from Delhi, say police

The Delhi Police, on Wednesday, contacted the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Mumbai and informed them that the deceased resembled the woman whose missing complaint had been filed at the Vasant Kunj police station December last.

Recognising the woman from the picture published in newspapers, a Delhi resident, whose name has been withheld, informed the Vasant Kunj police that the victim was his relative.

"The Delhi Police have informed us that the woman… resembles the relative of the complainant. We will ask them to come to Mumbai and identify the body," said Raj Khilnani, ADGP (Railways).

Meanwhile, a team from Vasant Kunj police station has already left for Mumbai along with the complainant to identify the body. Meanwhile, several people from the city have contacted the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus GRP claiming to have recognised the deceased.

On Monday night, Shashi Gohil, who lives near Sandhurst Road station, saw a man, around 30, with the suitcase on platform 1. A few minutes later, the man left the suitcase on the platform and disappeared.

The woman, who was wearing a salwar-kameez, was physically and sexually assaulted before being killed.
