Singer-composer Benny Dayal loves performing live. The 32-year-old who recently performed in Delhi feels that “live music” helps a musician to connect with his fans. He says that live shows are the only way for musicians to know their real worth.

“Sometimes, you hear people saying, ‘yar usne woh live gaana original se bhi kitna acha gaaya (Dude he sang that song even better than the original)’ And that’s the kind of reaction a musician lives for. In my gigs I make sure, that whatever I am doing is something different and those who are listening to me have a unique experience every time they come to listen to me,” he says.
The Kerala born singer, who has sung hits such as Badtameez Dil, Bang Bang and Aadat Se Majboor, does not go with a pre-decided set-list and believes in performing according to the audience present at the concert. “I improvise for about 60% of my entire show. I try to play every song differently so that no one gets bored or say that they didn’t enjoy the performance. When you sing live, you feel the audience and that’s how you decide how you will present a song to them. We try to understand the mood of the audience and then go on doing the show. It’s an exciting feeling when you see the audience react to the music you are playing,” he says.
