Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh is a popular name on the Punjabi music circuit. After gaining popularity for his collaboration with Honey Singh for, Goliyan, the singer made his Bollywood playback debut with Mere Dad Ki Maruti (MDKM) and then went on to sing Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (YPD2). Now, Daljit has come out with a new single, Proper patola. We talk to him about the single and more.

Tell us about the number.
It’s my tribute to non-Punjabi audiences. Since I’m occupied with a couple of films, I didn’t get the time to come up with an entire album. It’s an R&B track and has simple lyrics so that non-Punjabi listeners can understand it.

What do you enjoy more, singing in Punjabi or Hindi?
I love singing in Punjabi. In case of a Hindi song, I get the lyrics and the structure of the song, and I record. There’s not much I can do with it. But, with a Punjabi song I get to experiment and explore myself.

Do you plan to have a full-time career in Bollywood?
I am occupied with so many Punjabi films and stage shows that I hardly get the time to think about Bollywood. I tour a lot. I sang for MDKM and YPD2 because a friend of mine, Kumaar, had written the lyrics. I’m satisfied with my career in Punjab.
