Skyharbor goes global

Ex-Megadeth guitarist collaborates with Indian metal band on debut album.

Guitarist Keshav Dhar could be a poster boy for the wired generation. His three-piece band, Sky Harbour (earlier called Hydrodjent), formed barely a year ago, is a result of active social networking. “I connected with US-based drummer Anup Sastry over Facebook. We would talk about music and share samples, and one day we decided to form a band.”

Skyharbor has managed to arouse the interest of city metalheads, in spite of not having performed here.

“We played at the Weekender festival in Pune, but haven’t done a gig in Mumbai yet. The logistics of flying down a bandmate makes us quite picky,” he says.

Armed with his guitar and computer, Dhar has taken his sonic soundscape outside the country. Their debut album, Blinding White Noise, slated to release on April 23, features high-profile collaborations such as that with former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman and ex-Tesseract’s vocalist Daniel Tompkins.

“Daniel contacted me in 2010 on MySpace, saying he really liked my song and wanted to make music together.” Then, last year, came an email from Friedman, expressing interest in teaming up. “It was quite random. Marty had found one of my scratch recordings online and sent me an email. I thought it was a prank, but we met on Skype and spoke about his solo album, Tokyo Jukebox 2.”
