NEW DELHI: The external affairs ministry will co-host with China the India-China Think Tank Forum — a Track-1.5 discussion that involves experts and government officials from both countries for broad-based discussions on various issues.
The forum, to be organised in collaboration with the New Delhi-based Institute of Chinese Studies, will deliberate on major issues being faced by both neighbours bilaterally and globally.
An official said such meetings and forums aid frank exchange of views that help understand public perceptions about each other prevailing in their respective countries.
This, he said, would help the two sides, including the policymakers, make the ‘right assessments’ on the state of the relationship.
India-China ties have run into trouble after Beijing blocked India’s entry into the Nuclear Suppliers Group — an elite club of 48 countries that deals with export of nuclear technology and fissile materials.
Beijing had also come in the way of the United Nations Sanctions committee listing Pakistan-based individuals considered terrorists by India.
Meanwhile, the external affairs ministry will actively associate itself with five major conferences dealing with various issues of importance to them. These include organising a conference focused on recent developments in West Asia, including the Arab Spring, the rise of the IS, and the consequences of the Iran nuclear deal, in association with the Indian Council of World Affairs.
