15 substations planned for Ghaziabad, but land availability a hurdle

Officials of Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) said land is available only for five of the 15 substations — at Noor Nagar (Raj Nagar Extension), Meerut Road, Raj Nagar, Vaishali Sector 1 and Kaushambi.

“There are issues with land availability for the 10 remaining substations. We have requested the Ghaziabad Development Authority and the municipal corporation to make land available for the substations. We have also written to the district magistrate to take up the issue of land,” Arvind Rajvedi, chief engineer (distribution) from PVVNL, said.

The other substations are proposed to come up at Chipiyana, Model Town, Kavi Nagar, Vasundhara Sector 1, Site-IV Industrial area, Vasundhara Sector 13, Mohan Nagar, Pasonda, near Haj House and near Delhi border.

Each substation will be equipped with two transformers of 10MVA each. As per official estimates, each station will cater to around 6,500 households.

PVVNL officials have also approached Ghaziabad MP, General VK Singh (retired) and sought his intervention in solving the issue of small piece of land required for the construction of a tower at Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) campus in Indirapuram.

“A small area is required for setting up an electricity tower at the CISF campus. However, we are yet to get permission. This has hampered work on the 400KV substation at Indirapuram that is under construction. The substation will considerably improve supply in Ghaziabad but it has got delayed. It was scheduled to start working by April. The substation can become operational in two months, if we receive the necessary permissions,” Rajvedi said.

Earlier, Akhilesh Yadav, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh had sought the intervention of Rajnath Singh, Union home minister, to resolve the land issue for the 400KV substation at Indirapuram.

The 400KV station will get supply from the newly constructed 765KV substation at Hapur. The Hapur substation will feed a 400KV substation at Ator which will further supply power to the Indirapuram substation. The entire loop project is undertaken on a public-private partnership.
