Starting Thursday night, movement of trains will be restricted on the section near Vasundhara for four nights to allow the Ghaziabad development authority (GDA) to complete the pending work on the 10.3km Hindon elevated road project. The officials said the restriction on train movement was requested in April but got clearance from the Railways only now.

The authority will construct a major rail overbridge over the Delhi-Ghaziabad railway section. The railway section divides the elevated road project in two parts which will be joined within a week. The overbridge will be nearly 75 metres long and will join the road near Vasundhara.

“The work will begin at night under the supervision of the Railways, the GDA and contractor’s engineers. Apart from that, all precautions such as emergency services, ambulances and special cranes have been put in place. The cranes will place the steel girders to join the two sections,” said SS Verma, officiating chief engineer, GDA.

According to officials, a total of 16 steel girders, each weighing around 180 tonnes, will be placed over the railway section to join the elevated road. For the purpose, GDA has roped in a special crane which has a capacity to lift nearly 650 tonnes.

As per the present schedule, the GDA intends to open the elevated road, being built at a cost of Rs 1,147.6 crore, by the end of November. The road is designed on single pillars along river Hindon and will boost traffic connectivity between Ghaziabad and UP Gate. The previous deadline for the project was April 29.

According to the officials, nearly 90% of the work on the elevated road is complete and the remaining would be taken up soon. The entire six-lane road is slotted to be constructed over 227 pillars on a 10.3km stretch along river Hindon from Raj Nagar Extension to UP Gate.
