In support of the Union government’s Skill India initiative , Google will train the teaching faculty of technical colleges situated in Greater Noida on ‘Android development’ in a five-day workshop called an ‘Android Skilling’ programme.
The Android Skilling programme will be organised in ITS Engineering College from May 8-12 with dozens of teachers attending it. All technical colleges affiliated to Dr Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) can send their faculty for the training. The seminar is being organised by AKTU and Google in order to promote digital education, as per a memorandum of understanding signed between the two.
“This is our faculty training programme that we host when a university is ready to introduce a Android Development Fundamentals course in its curriculum. As a result, we are conducting this training for them,” said Peter Lubbers, senior programme manager, Google Developer Training.
Google had launched a Mobile Skilling programme in 2016 to train and certify two million developers in India over three years. Under this programme, the internet giant will also offer a standalone course via several training partners, including training institutes.
“India will have four million software developers by 2018, becoming the largest population of developers in the world. But today, less than 25% of these developers are trained to develop and build for the mobile platform. The majority of India’s internet user base today accesses the internet from their mobile phones and almost all the future internet users in India and many of the world’s emerging countries will be mobile-use only. There is a huge opportunity for India to become a global leader in mobile app development and we want to contribute and bridge the skills gap that exists today,” said Lubbers.

{{/usCountry}}“Keeping in mind the future of students, the university administration had decided to launch a course on Android-based application development for programmes such as computer science, information technology and masters in computers applications (CS/IT/MCA). To train our faculty, we have decided to hold such workshops in areas across UP where our affiliated colleges are situated,” said Vinay Kumar Pathak, vice chancellor, AKTU.
“All such colleges in Greater Noida that have computer engineering related programmes such as CS, IT and MCA have been strongly advised to send their teachers to the workshop,” he added.
