Mother, infant killed as speeding truck rams bike on NH-24 in Ghaziabad

According to the police, three adults — Yusuf, his wife, Shaheena, and his mother, Mobina — were travelling on the bike along with the infant, Saif.

A 25-year-old woman and her 10-month-old son died after the bike on which they were travelling was hit from behind by a speeding truck on NH-24 near Masuri in Ghaziabad on Thursday morning.

According to the police, three adults — Yusuf, his wife, Shaheena, and his mother, Mobina — were travelling on the bike along with the infant, Saif.

The police said that Shaheena and Saif were critically injured in the fall and died.

The family is from Aguata in Bulandshahr and had come to stay at a relative’s house in Vijay Nagar of Ghaziabad as Saif was undergoing treatment from a Delhi-based doctor. The family, on Thursday morning, was returning to Bulandshahr.

“When their bike reached near AKG Engineering College, the speeding truck hit their vehicle from behind and the riders slipped. The child and his mother sustained critical injuries and died at a hospital. Yusuf’s mother was admitted to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Delhi for treatment,” a police officer said.

“The child and his mother died soon after the accident while the man and his mother were rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment. Later, we also arrested the truck driver, Santosh, who had fled the spot after leaving the truck behind. We have also seized the truck,” said Raj Kumar Pandey, circle officer (Masuri).

The police said that the truck driver probably lost control while speeding on the highway and rammed the bike from behind.

Following the incident, locals also arrived at the spot and protested by trying to block the highway. However, they were pacified by the police, who ensure that the traffic flow was not hindered.
