Noida metro stations may get foot overbridges

The Noida metro corporation may get foot overbridges connecting stations to certain establishments

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) plans to provide a special foot overbridge (FOB) for one of the establishments around its 21 metro stations on the Noida to Greater Noida metro corridor.

The corporation has also made a provision enabling establishments such as hospitals, colleges, malls to approach NMRC to get direct access to and from metro stations. Permission will be given where such access is feasible.

Group housing societies too will get ease of access with a skywalk to be constructed from their societies.

Sources said that the NMRC came up with this idea after owners of various corporates approached them for direct access. The construction cost and maintenance would be borne by those seeking access. They will also get a share of the revenue generated through advertisements on these FOBs or corridors.

Civil work on the metro corridor is to be completed after June this year. Officials said stakeholders would then be invited through applications and the engineering wing would review their demand for FOBs.

The FOBs will have escalators and a covered roof, besides space for advertisements. Sources also said NMRC may also charge rent from the establishments concerned.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the managing director of the corporation also gave approval for construction of FOBs to be used by the general public that will also have facilities to be accessible to the differently-abled.
